Preferences

9-1. Preferences

There are 4 tabs in the Preferences in which you can change various Magellan settings.

9-2. Receive preferences

Default Text Encoding Usually, Magellan selects text encoding automatically however, such e-mail that has no description of character set is surely being sent from some e-mail softwares or kind of auto responder. Default text Encoding is for above e-mail.

Auto Mail Check Mail check is done periodically. Please note that your computer will access to the Internet at every mail check. Be careful if your access is dial-up.

Skip mail The mail of selected size will be skipped.
You can download entire message of skipped mail later, or delete it before you read. You can save time for receiving e-mail as you can see from who and about what.

Encoded attached text Some other email client cannot send text file attachment correctly to Magellan. If you have ever experienced this, select 'Save to the file' from the Pop up menu.

Unicode base language Japanese, Korean and Chinese are quite different language however, many of Kanji characters and Hiragana characters are common to each languages.

"Unicode base language" is setting for you to select main language of Unicode e-mail message.

For example, if you set to Korean, Unicode message including Hiragana characters will be indicated using Korean Hiragana characters. If you set to "Default", your start-up language will be used as Unicode base language.

9-3. Send preferences

Reply Message Magellan quotes original message with character '>' when 'All message' is selected. If you don't want to quote, select 'None'. You can also use 'Paste with quote' in the Edit menu.
Reply to You can select replying to the sender only (whose e-mail address appears in the From line) or, all members appear in the From:, Cc:, and Bcc: line.

Multilingual mail You can select the format of multilingual e-mail, MultiScript or Unicode.
If you send message of any single language, either format is available.

It is better for you to select format according to receiver's computer system and e-mail software.

If receiver is using Magellan too, MultiScript is recommended. Because the Scripts and attributes of each languages are not lost, receiver can edit message even on other text editing software. Other e-mail client software that can switch encoding is possibly able to receive multilingual message by MultiScript.
If receiver's e-mail software supports Unicode, he can correctly read your multilingual message by Unicode. However, Scripts and attributes will be lost. Especially either Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean is included in the mail message, Kanji will be unified and unable to be identified as each language.

Main language (optional setting for MultiScript)
If you select Main language, Magellan can send MultiScript mail which has certain language attribute.
With this setting, receiver will be able to read main language part correctly by any e-mail client supports the language. However, your multilingual message should not be sent to other e-mail client software which is not for multilingual message, even you set Main language. It is possible that other language part will be broken.

For example, in case you select main language Western, Magellan will send your MultiScript message written in Latin1 and Japanese as iso-8859-1. Even receiver's e-mail client cannot indicate MultiScript, the message is received as iso-8859-1.

Select "default" in normal case.
If you know well about this function and in case it is necessary for you, set main language.

Minimize Scripts (optional setting for MultiScript)
Magellan handles switching of scripts strictly. However, minimize data size is more important than strict language distinction in many cases. For example, us-ascii characters included Chinese can be handled as Chinese. The default setting is "Off". If you use single language mostly, turn this switch "On". If you use many languages in your multilingual message, don't change default setting.
Keep Paragraph
Sometimes received mail includes many line breaks and message is cramped.
This Keep Paragraph option allows sending mail without unnecessary line break.
You can easily edit mail text copy and pasting to other application.
If the switch is OFF, mail is sent with line break as usual.
The function is effective in Japanese, English and Korean.
Other languages are always sent without line break.

Notice

Magellan
can do correct handling of languages automatically in most case. But main language setting is the only manual handling. Use this function with care, or you will send illegible message.

When you want to send message in Japanese and French, the dialog which confirms you the format of multilingual you select on the Send preference will appear.
